The city of Artyomovsk - Bakhmut before 1924 - situated in the mouth of the river Bakhmut in the east of Ukraine, one of the oldest cites of Donbass, was founded in 1571. Its population alongside with satellite-cites (towns) equals 117,9 thousand people,

At present the city occupies the area of 7368 hectares.

The main (railroad) line Moscow-Caucasus and automobile turnpike Kharkov - Rostov pass through the city.

The city's economy unites branches of industry priority given to food, timber, machine-building, metal-processing industries, production of building materials. Non-ferrous metallurgy has a certain place in the structure of industrial production, its representative being the only plant on processing non ferrous metals on rolling copper and brass in
Ukraine.

Over 30 large industrial enterprises work in Artyomovsk now. Among them are enterprises known in all countries of the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States): Production Amalgamation "Artyomsol", Closed Joint Stock Company "Champagne plant", Open Joint Stock Company "Dorindustriya", OJSC "Mashplant "Victory of Labour".

The production of Chasovoyarsky fire-resistance plant is famous far off our region.

We have the only Institute of Salt Industry among the countries of CIS, the largest geological survey integrated works "Donbass-Geology".

The city of Artyomovsk was admitted to the League of historical cities and is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities of Ukraine.
